Monitoring blood pressure is a healthy habit for all adults. It becomes necessary as you age or have risk factors for developing hypertension, such as; a family history of high blood pressure, smoking or a sedentary lifestyle. Check out our article Hypertension: The Link Between Age and High Blood Pressure for more information on risk factors and what you can do about them. For those diagnosed with hypertension, regular monitoring will help you. Your health care provider can recommend which treatment is best for you, and seeing your numbers improve through regular monitoring can act as a strong motivator.
Understanding your numbers allows you to make proactive and empowered decisions about your heart health. Recording and monitoring your blood pressure results is where the PreCardix Blood Pressure App can help. This app provides a simple solution to tracking and analyzing your blood pressure readings so that you and your healthcare provider have all the information required to create a health plan that is right for you. Download the PreCardix Blood Pressure Tracking App here and use the instructions below to track your blood pressure today!
Creating Your Profile in the App
Before you begin entering your blood pressure readings, set up your profile. Here you can enter your height and weight to allow the app to calculate your body mass index (or BMI). Your BMI is an important biometric measurement to determine cardiovascular risk. Keeping your BMI <30 kg/m2 is vital for improving all long term health outcomes. You can also add your age and other diagnoses that are risk factors for cardiovascular disease, including;
- Smoking status
- Cholesterol levels
- Coronary Artery Disease
- Chronic Kidney Disease
Adding the information above stores all your pertinent heart health information in one place.
Tracking Your Daily Blood Pressure Measurements
The app will send you helpful notifications reminding you to take your blood pressure in the morning and evening per Hypertension Canada guidelines. Ensure that you are using a validated blood pressure device; a list of recommended devices that have been proven accurate in research studies can be accessed here. The PreCardix App will remind you to use proper technique when taking your blood pressure at home. Refer to our infographic for more detailed instructions; How to Measure your BP Accurately from Home.
Once you have taken your blood pressure measurement, you can manually input the results into the app. If your device has Bluetooth, your measurements will automatically upload to the app. If you take your blood pressure at an automated blood pressure kiosk, you can scan the barcode from the receipt, and your reading will automatically upload to the app.
If healthy weight loss and weight management are part of your health goals, remember to enter your weigh-ins into the PreCardix app. The height from your profile in the app will calculate your current BMI, and the app will help track your weight over time to help you reach your healthy weight goals.
Tracking Your Blood Sugar Levels
If you take blood glucose measurements regularly, you can also add your readings to the PreCardix app. The feature named “Blood Glucose Snapshot” allows you to see how your blood glucose concentrations vary throughout an average day. The app will schedule and remind you to take your blood glucose measurements multiple times over several days. This data set will allow the app to build your personalized blood glucose snapshot!
